It was founded in 1922 and used as a whaling station until the 1960's. The white Caribbean like beaches surrounding the crystal clear waters of the Langebaan Lagoon are one of the main attractions of Langebaan. With it's protected lagoon it's the perfect place for sailing, kayaking and kitesurfing. The town developed on the easthern shore of the Langebaan Lagoon. To protect it's culture as a fishing, holiday and retirement village, the town allows no industries. The mild climate, beautiful surroundings and calm waters provide a constant stream of visitors. Able to accommodate large numbers, the well-known artists are regular performers at this venue. Large-scale sporting events such as triathlons, the downwind dash, cycling, car gymkhanas and more are held here. A monthly craft market as well as art exhibitions through the year, showcase the talents of local artists. Community events includes the church bazaar and the annual Langebaan Mussel Festival, which takes place on the first weekend of October. The West Coast National Park is a hive of activity during flower season when visitors enjoy the spectacle of wild flowers in all their splendour. The manager, Michelle Louden, is running the guest house and doing a splendid job. There is a wide variety of activities for young and old when in Langebaan. After about 120 kms from Cape Town, take turn off left to Langebaan (there is an Engen petrol service station on the left just before the turnoff). At the Rocks has five en-suite bedrooms, three with wide uninterrupted views over the green belt, the rocks, the village and the lagoon. One can also see the sea very far on the horizon, sometimes with white spray washing over the rocky outcrops. The two standard rooms also have views over the lagoon, but from a smaller window. We provide a warm, welcoming, non-intrusive atmosphere, advice on what to do and where to eat, and we try our best to answer your other questions or at least find out what the answers are. A warm shower, comfortable bed and splendid breakfast complete the picture.
